Created to commemorate the peace that followed World War I, the 1923 Peace Dollar is one of the most expressive designs in American silver coinage. Lady Liberty dominates the obverse, modeled by Anthony de Francisci’s wife, Teresa, while the reverse presents an eagle standing watch over the word “PEACE,” with an olive branch beneath its feet and rays of sunlight rising behind it.

Struck by the United States Mint in 90% silver, the Peace Dollar contains .77344 troy oz of silver. The series was minted from 1921 through 1928 and again from 1934 through 1935, making these coins tangible reminders of the optimism surrounding the end of World War I.
